Healing from Suicide: Spouse & Partner BEREAVEMENT GROUP.
This in-person 10-week group supports partners and spouses whose loved one has died by suicide. In a safe environment, members explore the complexity of losing a loved one to suicide and the longing to understand why. Members receive and provide comfort among other survivors experiencing similar emotions, behaviors, and thoughts on their grief journey.
Our trauma-informed sessions will focus on topics such as life imprints, grief emotions, misconceptions, resilience, and the six needs of mourning. At the core is how engaging in mindfulness can foster healing in the wake of trauma.
THE DETAILS
Families that have lost a loved one to suicide can become isolated in their grief, as their community seeks distance from the tragedy. Your loss may be invalidated, stigmatized, or unrecognized by family members, society, or culture. Joining a support group can validate your feelings and longings.
Group counseling is a unique relationship in which a group of people who are likely experiencing similar issues/difficulties come together to give and receive help from one another. I attempt to create an environment where honest, interpersonal exploration will occur that will benefit all members.
Your Facilitator: I am a nationally Certified Thanatologist (Death, Dying, & Bereavement) and worked at a regional hospital Cancer Support Program for five years as a psychosocial oncology counselor. In private practice, I work with clients suffering from suicidal ideation as well as partners, spouses, and family members grieving the loss of a loved one who died by suicide.
Confidentiality: Group psychotherapy is effective because individuals feel safe to share private information in a confidential atmosphere. Group members will agree to uphold the confidentiality of the therapeutic setting, including keeping names and identities of other group members confidential.
Frequency: This psychotherapy group meets every week for ten weeks, 55 minutes each session.
Discussion: Members of effective groups actively share thoughts, reactions, and feelings during group meetings as a way of increasing their self-understanding and contributing to the personal growth of other members. Our discussions will focus on specific themes related to pre-determined readings and multi-media.
Participants: To assure everyone has ample time to participate, membership is limited to ten people.
Snacks: There will be snacks and light refreshments.
Payment: This 10-week program costs $40 per session and includes a book, and supplies for therapeutic healing projects. Payment can be made in full prior to the start of the group or in $40 installments.
Note: Most insurance plans cover the cost of group. Participants are encouraged to check with their insurance provider to see if they are afforded coverage with an Out of Network provider for group therapy. If so, I can provide Superbills for reimbursement.
