Seniors & Elders COUNSELING.

As a senior and elder of our world, your knowledge, wisdom, and experiences have informed and contributed to younger generations—be they from your family, your neighborhood, your vocation, or your community.

After decades of providing support, guidance, and knowledge to others, you now find yourself at a time of self-reflection and assessment of your own life, trying to make sense and meaning out of your journey.

You may find yourself adjusting to myriad changes in your life and feel a sense of loss of control. Perhaps you recently retired and wonder: What now? Or, with the support of your family, you have decided to move into a retirement community or assisted care facility but miss your home and neighbors. You find yourself surrounded by new faces but feel socially isolated. You may be experiencing new health concerns such as physical, emotional, and/or cognitive issues and are anxious about what the future holds for you. You may find yourself reflecting more on your life’s journey and would like a safe space to explore how you arrived at today. Or, you may have suffered a series of losses, and you would like to process your grief.

Working with a skilled therapist can help you navigate these new waters. I large part of my practice has included working with seniors and elders who have struggled emotionally due to a decline in their health and well-being, the decline of a spouse’s health, or drastic changes in lifestyle. I have also supported patients and their families during end-of-life care.

I welcome you into my practice without judgement and meet you where you are—wherever you are—and walk alongside you as you reflect, muse, and discover what life on this planet has meant to you and all those you have touched.

WHAT DOES A THERAPY SESSION LOOK LIKE?

The first session is 55 minutes and gives you an opportunity to tell your story. We will explore what brings you to therapy and what you hope to gain from our work together.

We collaborate to help you discover your strengths, enhance personal cultivation, and engage in evidence-based techniques and practices. This work reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression, such as ruminating thoughts, panic attacks, lack of interest in engaging in activities, social isolation, sleep disruptions, or feeling bad about yourself.

We work together to see where you excel and where you could improve your life’s eight areas of wellness—emotional, physical, social, spiritual, intellectual, environmental, financial, and vocational. We review your life story, identify areas you would like to work on, and work together to craft your next chapters.

Regular sessions are 55 minutes and focus on the issues you bring and continue our discussions from prior sessions. During these sessions, you are the driver of your experiences. I listen closely with empathy and non-judgment.

WHAT TOPICS DO WE DISCUSS?

All topics are open for discussion. I pose questions, share observations, and actively engage you in a deeper exploration of your presenting topics to assist in finding a way to express your thoughts, feelings, and emotions in a safe and respectful manner.

HOW MANY SESSIONS?

I recommend a commitment of at least 10 sessions, upon which we review progress and determine next steps together. Brief therapy, less than four session, can help you with a specific issue or problem.

You can terminate our work together at any time.
