Billings & Payments
I view you as a whole human being who faces life challenges—as all humans do. Such challenges can create anxiety, sadness, loneliness, or grief and are neither pathological nor requiring of a psychiatric diagnosis. Mental health counseling is one piece of your wellness maintenance, and I seek to minimize placing labels on someone seeking personal growth and reconciliation. To that end, I am committed to limiting third-party involvement in our therapeutic process and operate on a fee-for-service basis, i.e., I do not accept insurance.
Insurance.
Your privacy and personal information are important to me. So is our ability to manage your goals and action plans. Insurance companies require a psychiatric diagnosis based on the DSM-5TR to reimburse for services. This diagnosis may becomes a part of your permanent, electronic medical record and/or a third party may dictate how many sessions you can receive.
If you would like to seek reimbursement for my services, I provide paperwork (i.e., a Superbill) that you can submit to your insurance company for consideration of reimbursement. Since all insurance companies handle out of network (OON) claims differently, it is your responsibility to call and determine your insurance company’s mental health benefits and co-pays.
In accordance with 10A NCAC 22J .0106:
a provider may refuse to accept a patient as a Medicaid patient and bill the patient as a private pay patient only if the provider informs the patient that the provider will not bill Medicaid for any services, but will charge the patient for all services provided. Acceptance of a patient as a Medicaid patient by a provider includes, but is not limited to, entering the patient's Medicaid number or card into any sort of patient record or general record-keeping system, obtaining other proof of Medicaid eligibility, or filing a Medicaid claim for services provided to a patient.
If you are covered by Medicaid and wish to work with me as an OON provider, I will provide you with an official letter detailing that I will not bill Medicaid on your behalf and that you are responsible for all out of services provided.
Payment.
I accept cash, check, credit, or debit card payment, including health savings accounts and flexible spending plans. Payment is due at the time of service.
Length of Therapy.
The number of sessions and duration of your therapy are based on several issues, including presenting concerns, movement toward healing (resilience), and potential recurring or perseverating issues that are not apparent at the onset of therapy. Depth psychotherapy is a process of uncovering, revealing, and relating to the wholeness of one’s being. Depending on the individual, this type of work can take place weekly for several months to years. A holistic approach to an acute life transition such as the loss of a loved one, a job, health, or future hopes may require a minimum of 8-10 weekly sessions, with consideration of follow-up sessions. Dialogue Therapy for Couples is an evidence-based treatment with a set number of sessions developed to eliminate the need for ongoing therapist involvement after the conclusion of our work together.
No Surprises Act & Good Faith Estimate.
As a paying client, you have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" determining how much your mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give clients who do not have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare service, including counseling services. You can ask your provider for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at lease $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate you can dispute the bill. You will receive a copy of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
